Hello Wine Lovers

Hope summer has been good. At least we have started to see some appropriate weather, except for that incredible rain burst last evening. Our street was like a river. Otherwise, I got to take my granddaughter to Stampede so it was a great July for me.

GRETZKY WINE TASTING
The only tasting we managed in July was the Gretzky wine event last weekend, that also featured importer Craig Simpson, Gretzky's onetime teammate in the Oiler's Stanley Cup days, as host. There were three tastings in the Hat, a wine and food pairing dinner at the Cypress Club, and a golf event at Connaught. Craig is an extremely charming fellow as well as a talented hockey analyst at CBC HNIC, who has turned his many skills into wine importing. All four of the wines we tasted were exceptional. The Great One has scored a goal with his Ontario winery.

FREEHOUSE WINE SALE
The wines that I brought in from importer Free House that were up to 50% off, were all good. I still have a few left if you would like to try them. Exceptional value especially the Cave Spring whites.

FIND OF THE SUMMER
I think I have managed to find you some good bargains this summer overall but the most exceptional one is the 1+1=3 Rose from Spain. Regularly $17, it is available at $10.95. I did a tasting on Friday past at 8th Street. It easily is the best value I have on hand at the moment. You may want to order a six pack of this great patio wine. It is a classic Mediterranean rose, dry and crisp with a lovely nose that adds beautifully to a summer evening sipping wine on the deck. I had it with a variety of foods and like sparkling wine, a dry rose of this nature goes well with most things including spicy asian as well as barbecue meat.

NEXT TASTING GETTING READY FOR FALL

Our next tasting will be at 8th Street on August 26th. I am planning on featuring wines that are more suited to the fall evenings, more full bodied reds like merlot, blends like GSM and Bordeaux . I have not selected the wines yet but they will be good averaging in the $25 range. There will only be room for 18 people so let me know early if you would like to attend. The cost will be $15. The tasting will start at 730pm. I will send out a notice closer to the date with the wines I select.

WEBSITE
You may not be aware but we have had a website for a number of years. I am currently updating it and it will soon offer the option of ordering online and home delivery, plus it will have more information about both stores. Let me know if that would be of interest to you. Please stay tuned.

Enjoy the rest of the summer. See you at our next tasting.

Cheers

Wine & Liquor Store

8th St. Crescent Heights Wine and Liquor Store often hosts special occasions and events, to be notified, please join our email newsletter by signing up here.

I will send out a monthly e-mail full of information on things like wine bargains available, details of our monthly wine tasting and finally, information on different aspects of wine in general - like a newsletter.

If you are interested in any of the wines being offered simply e-mail or phone to book a case or more. I will normally need to order these in for you.  I get these wine buying opportunities quite often but I think a monthly note should suffice. I will not re-send information on these wines until perhaps the next newsletter.

About a week before any tasting I will send you a reminder to book your space (since we know no one wants to commit too early) or to cancel the event if there is insufficient interest. As this has happened on more than one occasion it is unfortunately sometimes necessary to take that step. None of my tasting's are just "show up" events so if you plan to attend you must let me know by phone or e-mail.

Send me any questions you may have about wine.
